Or do as the ACL propose - if you've worked in costs a few years, just sit an 'oral examination' (interview) and boom! You're a qualified cost lawyer able to go on record for clients and conduct advocacy with full rights of audience in costs matters. Better still, if you're already a solicitor or barrister, you automatically become a cost lawyer - just imagine, instantly knowing all costs law and regulations, and be able to draw your own bills.

Then again, most solicitors don't believe there's anything difficult in costs law - until they come up against a proper draftsman....
