Frank Maher. The Solicitors Benevolent Association will not fund people who fall foul of the SRA or SDT. They will assist their family, if in need but not them.

I do wonder why qualified solicitors are uniquely beyond redemption in the 21st century. All other groups get a second chance, it seems but not solicitors. Solicitors, it seems, are a type of priesthood who are held to the highest standards. However much they are pressurised, they must not break. Shades of those shot at dawn in ww1. They must be punished because otherwise the line would break. I thought we had got beyond these woefully ignorant mantras.

The Royal Family have embraced mental health as a cause but the SRA stands alone in ignoring it. You know what, I think there would be a sharp U Turn if the Duke of Cambridge or the Duke of Sussex started complaining about the treatment of young solicitors with mental health problems.
