There used to be a judge who summed up to the jury as follows
''Members of the jury, women cry rape for various reasons. Sometimes it is because they have been raped''

Rape and more importantly the conviction rate for rape has become a political crusade. There are probably countless women being raped every day who do not make a complaint because of the private nature of the sexual relationship and lack of supporting evidence. However, bending the rules ( or abolishing them) so that more defendants are convicted does not tackle the problem it just creates a sense of injustice and feelings of sympathy for the wrongly accused. Abolishing juries and replacing them with judge alone trials prevents the judge from acting as an independent referee and risks his/her verdicts becoming the stuff of judicial league tables.
Addressing mens attitude towards women is the way forward not reliance on a system of justice that depends on the chance availability of substantial supporting evidence
