A bear of very little brain writes:

Why are the brightest legal brains taxed on this issue? I can see a lot to commend the idea of not naming somebody who has been arrested but not charged, but I can't identify any compelling argument in favour of naming them.

The only argument I have heard is the #metoo argument that publicly naming an arrested person can result in other of their alleged victims speaking out. If one accepts that this is an argument in favour of naming an arrested person, does it not erode completely when considering that precisely the same effect will be had when they are charged?

I am not the brightest legal brain, so I'm asking around hoping that others will disabuse me of my ignorance: why isn't this a no-brainer in favour of anonymity?
