Anon of 12.18: "Similarly, childcare responsibilities should be equally shared. It shouldn't be mainly a mother's responsibility to care for children. The burden should be shared equally. For example, the school-gates shouldn't be dominated by mothers dropping off or picking up their children, fathers should play an equal part.

If shouldn't be men who "support their own families" it should be parents who support their families, irrespective of gender. Men don't need to earn more than women to "support their own families". This shouldn't be how families in the 21st century work. It should be down to each family to decide how their family is supported and gender should not be a factor in that decision.

Should this, should that, should the other: it's not the job of the profession to change the world.

Anon of 13.41, on the off-chance that you are serious: a week or two ago a female colleague had the sun in her eyes because the blind was jammed. To clear it she would have had to stand on her desk and then stretch high. She was in her last week before going on maternity leave. I did it for her. In your firm would that be a patronising and demeaning micro-aggression?

As for you, Anon of 13.56, I have to think you are joking, but I like the thought of the litigation which would follow if the Law Society or the Bar tried to stop men qualifying!
