This is off topic, but if the Law Society and the SRA wanted to do something really useful, maybe they should look at freedom of choice for clients. The Lenders are more and more insisting on how many Partners a firm has to have before they can deal with a mortgage and then you have to go through Lender Exchange or LMS. How many Partners a firm has does not denote whether they are going to disappear with mortgage funds or make huge mistakes and leave the lender without any security. It could be that the actual Conveyancer has no qualifications and is dealing with a transaction from a checklist.
