Since the change isn't about increasing conviction rates (in fairness how could it be given they already convict 98% of solicitors who appear before them, which must mean the SDT has some of the most incredibly skilled advocates and investigators in history), I wonder whether Mr Nally could tell us what the purpose of the change is about? It's a pity he didn't mention it when asked about it for this article. I understand that other professions might choose to test members on the civil standard but I have to ask, "so what?" Just because John does something doesn't mean that Mary should copy him without good reason.
