Associate Emily and Basil the horse beat the hot weather at a showjumping event.

Here at Obiter towers the downside of the recent spell of glorious sunshine has been the soaring and uncomfortable temperatures indoors. So spare a thought for Emily Wiggins, an associate in the trust department at Hart Brown, who competed in two showjumping classes with her horse, Basil, when temperatures hit a high of 29 degrees celsius.

High temperatures can make Basil ill, but Wiggins found a novel way of keeping their cool - by throwing buckets of water over Basil in between classes.

The hard work paid off as the pair were placed 5th and 6th respectively in the two classes they entered - an impressive achievement considering the event also followed a short break in competing and was intended to gently ease Basil - a 17 hand Hanoverian Warmblood in his late teens - back into competitive showjumping.

Hart Brown has sponsored Emily and Basil since 2005 in their competitive showjumping role.
