Adnan Hussain

Why is he in the news? Represented Daniel Brydges, 33, who received a suspended prison sentence for trespassing on a protected site (Buckingham Palace) twice and causing criminal damage to the Queen’s estate.

Thoughts on the case: ‘Mr Brydges had been recommended by a friend to this firm. Upon first meeting him he was very anxious and worried about the proceedings.

‘This was an unusual case, and certainly one criminal lawyers don’t see every day. Mr Brydges had a complex character and underwent numerous medical assessments to support the mitigating circumstances regarding his health. This evidence was pivotal in persuading the court to impose a suspended sentence.’

Dealing with the media: ‘Walking into a courtroom packed with journalists can be an intimidating experience. But if one is properly prepared with a strategy in place, there is usually no reason to be too worried. My concern was much more for Mr Brydges and how he would cope. I did my best to protect him from the media frenzy.’

Why become a lawyer? ‘The criminal justice system is heavily weighted against the accused. They are up against police officers, prosecutors and judges, and yet get just one person to stand up for them. I have always felt comfortable with being that person.’

Career high: ‘I have been lucky enough to deal with a large number of serious and high-profile cases, and they have been fascinating to work on, but the best moment for me was becoming a partner at the firm that I first worked for when I was 18. Being appreciated by your work colleagues is real validation.’

Career low: ‘Watching the erosion of publicly funded work by a succession of governments. These cuts primarily affect the most disadvantaged in denying them access to the justice they deserve.’
