National law firm Weightmans has welcomed launched a new Private Client team in Birmingham with a key hire, as the firm continues to invest in the Midlands region.

Sarah Louise Walker heads up the new Weightmans’ wills, trusts, tax and probate team in the Birmingham office and advises clients on all Tax Planning, Trust and Wills and Probate matters.

Experienced in all areas of lifetime and post-death tax planning, Sarah specialises in complicated high net worth estates and contentious matters. She works closely with the Weightmans Owner Managed Business and Family teams, offering a completely holistic approach to succession planning through the generations with family businesses.

Sarah’s arrival comes in a year of fast growth, development and investment in the Weightmans Private Client service after the firm welcomed partner Richard Bate to lead the team in Manchester and Leeds WTTP specialist James Knowles was promoted to Partner in May. An additional two recruits are due to join the team in October.

Carole Atkinson, partner and head of Private Client at Weightmans said: ’Sarah is a knowledgeable, skilled and experienced lawyer and a great lead for our private client team in the Midlands.

‘Her arrival further reiterates our commitment to private client services and providing the most intuitive and solutions-driven provision. We look forward to watching the team grow even further over the next few months.’

Sarah added: ’Weightmans is ambitious and innovative in its approach – the firm’s restructure earlier this year has resulted in a truly holistic take on the delivery of private client services which I am delighted to be a part of. The firm has a terrific reputation for advising clients on their personal legal needs and I look forward to working across a number of teams to continue to build on this.’

Sarah joins the firm from Knights Professional Services, prior to that having worked at Shoosmiths where she was responsible for founding and leading the Wealth Protection team in Birmingham.
