The Law Society Council took another step last week in its reforms to the governance of the Society.
Members agreed the remits of the four new boards that will take Chancery Lane's representational responsibilities forward. They will comprise the membership board, regulatory affairs, legal and policy, and the group management board (the name of which is yet to be finalised).
The council will remain the ultimate decision-making authority under the Law Society's Charter. However, policy implementation will be devolved to the boards.
The necessary by-law changes will be made at the Law Society's annual general meeting on 19 July, which will also consider motions to transfer the power to remove a council member from a special general meeting to the council and to require candidates in council elections to disclose specified information.
