Deals of the week - 16.01.2003

Most underground deal: Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer acted for London Underground on the financial close of the UK's largest ever public private partnership, passing control of the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines to Tube Lines Group, a consortium comprising Amey, Jarvis and UIC, advised by Lovells.

The 30-year deal envisages 4.4 billion investment during the first seven years.

Norton Rose acted for the 29 lending banks, European Investment Bank and Ambac on the 1.8 billion syndicated financing, while Denton Wilde Sapte advised the mezzanine finance providers.

Most revealing deal: London firm Nellen acted for Bodas, the retailer of Bodas underwear, on its issue of convertible preference shares to Venture Capital Report, advised by City firm Taylor Wessing.

Most educational deal: City firm Rosenblatt acted for Education Overseas, the holding company for overseas schools which mainly provide the British curriculum, in buying Fieldwork Education for an undisclosed sum.

Ipswich firm Prettys acted for Fieldwork.

Booziest deal: City firm Theodore Goddard acted for Pubs 'n' Bars on 11.5 million funding from new banker AIB, advised by home counties firm IBB.

Flightiest deal: City firm Druces & Attlee acted for Expeditors International (UK) on the 37 million purchase of a redevelopment site at Heathrow airport subject to a five-year leaseback.

Herbert Smith acted for the vendor, BAA Lynton.

Most Victorian deal: City firm Travers Smith Braithwaite acted for the Garbe Group on letting around 26,000 sq ft of office space at Victoria House in central London to Sport England, advised by London firm Cumberland Ellis Peirs, and 8,700 sq ft of retail space to the House of Hanover, represented by Julian Holy & Co.

Most ship-shape deal: City firm Watson Farley & Williams acted for Andrew Weir Shipping on the sale, for an undisclosed sum, of two liner services: Ellerman Container Line Services has been sold to Hamburg Sd, advised by Stephenson Harwood, while European Short Sea International Services has gone to CMA-CGM, which was advised in-house and by London firm Izod Evans on intellectual property matters and Liverpool-based Hill Dickinson on property matters.

Most integrated deal: City firm Bracher Rawlins acted for the vendors of Swan Solutions on its sale for an undisclosed sum to Inter-Tel Integrated Systems, advised by Clifford Chance.
