HVR provides the defence sector with technical and management consultancy services. The deal is Qinetiq's first acquisition since its partial privatisation in 2003. City firm Tarlo Lyons acted for Qinetiq.
Most recognisable deal: City firm Taylor Wessing acted for Voice Recognition Holdings on the sale of its telecoms division, which trades through SRC Europe, to Fluency Voice Technology for an undisclosed sum. City firm CMS Cameron McKenna advised Fluency Voice.
Tastiest deal: Exeter firm Michelmores advised the management of Oakdale Bakeries in Leeds on the acquisition of the company from its founder Marshall P Capel for an undisclosed amount. Oakdale is one of the leading suppliers of own-label cakes in the UK, focusing on products such as mini Swiss rolls, mince and fruit pies, and malt loaf. The Leeds office of DLA acted for the vendor, while City firm Ashurst represented the finance provider, Reykjavik-based Islandsbanki.
Hardest deal: Manchester firm Pannone & Partners acted for Charles and David Brown in relation to their sale of Gee-Co Holdings and its subsidiaries to Supreme Concrete for an undisclosed sum. Gee-Co is a pre-cast concrete manufacturer based in Clitheroe, Lancashire. Birmingham firm Wragge & Co advised Supreme Concrete.
Cuddliest deal: The Manchester office of Hammonds advised the management team on its £230 million acquisition of Pets at Home, the retailer of pet foods and products. The company operates 155 stores and employs 2,700 people. City firm Travers Smith Braithwaite advised private equity house Bridgepoint, which funded the deal, while City firm DLA acted for Pets at Home. City firm Ashurst acted for debt provider Royal Bank of Scotland.
