I have just received a questionnaire to complete in connection with the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s equality and diversity study. I am absolutely stunned at its content. It asks me whether I am disabled and what disabilities I have, what my religion is, what my sexual orientation is and, most laughably, whether I have had a sex change! The exact question about sex change is: ‘Is your gender identity the same as the gender you were assigned at birth?’

What on earth has the profession come to when our funds are spent on such utter nonsense as this? It is going in my shredder.

More seriously, the survey suggests the SRA intends to use the information to guard against discrimination and promote diversity. I can’t see that it can do anything other than promote discrimination within the organisation if anybody bothers to answer this absurd waste of time, effort, energy, money and paper.

The world has gone mad!
