HM Land Registry

On 6 September the Lord Chancellor announced the launch of an independent quinquennial review of HM Land Registry.

Andrew Edwards CB has been appointed to carry it out.

All executive agencies are required to undergo regular, usually five-yearly, reviews carried out in accordance with guidance published by the Cabinet Office.

This is the second such review of the Land Registry.

The review will include an assessment of its performance as well as a thorough consideration of all options for carrying out its work, including the better quality services approach to delivery.

The review will be overseen by a steering group chaired by the Lord Chancellor's Department with members drawn from the Land Registry and other relevant government departments.

The review will involve widespread consultation with those who have an interest in the work of the Land Registry.

It is expected that the report of the review will be published in Spring 2001.

Comments and contributions on any aspect of the review are invited from all with an interest in the Land Registry, and the review.

They should be sent by 3 November 2000 to: Andrew Edwards CB, Room SG13, H M Land Registry, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London WC2A 3PH.

Responses may be e-mailed to: andrew.edwards@landreg.gsi.gov.uk

Mr Edwards has made clear that he would wish, wherever appropriate, to be able to quote from contributions made and to attribute views expressed by organisations and individuals.

It is also proposed to include in the report a list of those who made contributions.

If contributors do not wish their views or names to be made public, they should please ensure that their contributions are clearly so marked.

Confidential responses may be included in any statistical summary of comments received and views expressed.
