The Law Commission is consulting on a new programme of law reform and is seeking ideas for new projects, in particular those that support the drive to reduce waste and inefficiency.

Projects are likely to focus on issues that are systemic and caused by laws or policies that are complex or hard to understand. They may have widespread discriminatory impact or cause disproportionate costs and arise from laws or policies that are inconsistent with modern standards.

Examples of projects initiated in the last programme include: a review of the legislative framework for the provision of adult social care services in England and Wales; a review of level crossings legislation; an examination of the status and enforceability of marital property agreements (pre-nups and post-nups); and a review of the law governing fitness to plead and insanity (consultation opens October 2010).

Ideas for new projects should be submitted by 15 October 2010. For more information go to the Law Commission website.
