A solicitor who sits as a judge on the Court of Arbitration for Sport has been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours for his services to sport and sports law with an OBE.

Kwadjo Adjepong says he never imagined ‘as a child from a working-class background that attended inner London state schools’ that he would receive such an honour. ‘I hope this inspires other young people from all backgrounds, particularly those who may not see themselves represented in leadership positions within sport or the legal profession.’

He is a former non-executive director on the board of Table Tennis England, the national governing body for Olympic, Paralympic and recreational table tennis in the UK. In his spare time he has been involved in elite, recreational and disability sport as an athlete, volunteer, coach, official and mentor.

Adjepong said: ‘Sport has the unique ability to unite people from all walks of life and create opportunity, as it has done for me. I have been fortunate enough to train and work with outstanding lawyers, athletes and organisations throughout my career. This award reflects the commitment of many people dedicated to ensuring fairness and good governance in sport.’
