TAXING QUESTION
At the beginning of July, my firm completed four leases of adjoining units on behalf of a tenant and duly submitted four stamp duty land tax forms, SDLT1 and SDLT4, to the Revenue.
Since the transactions were between the same parties, the leases share the same net present value and are 'linked'. However, since no premium was payable, I inserted 'zero' in the consideration box of the form.
The Revenue seems completely unable to cope with this as, some six weeks later, I received four forms SDLT8 - two from Newcastle, one from Bristol and one from Birmingham - all asking me to specify the amount of the consideration.
Another month has passed by and I have still not received the certificates. In the meantime I have four Land Registry applications that are all under threat of rejection.
