Seven new partners for SJ Berwin, with five promotions in its City office: Robert Andrews (banking), Charlotte McMillan (media and communications), Nick Minkoff (real estate), John Skoulding (tax) and Richard Watkins (corporate finance).

It now has 127 partners.

Corporate specialists Jonathan Campbell and Elinor Dautlich are promoted to partner at Holman Fenwick & Willan, now an 85-partner firm.

Private client specialist Andrew Melvin is promoted to partner at Hunters in London, taking the partnership to 22.

Property finance specialist Russell Dellar joins Bird & Bird as a partner from Landwell.

US firm Debevoise & Plimpton has promoted English-qualified acquisition finance specialist Alan Davies to partner in its London office.

Three new partners for national firm Addleshaw Goddard: Ruth Davies (employment), Andrew Pettinger (finance and projects) and Daniel Redstone (corporate restructuring and insolvency).

The firm has also appointed eight legal directors: Alison Bull (family), Elaine Fletcher and Stuart Jackson (commercial), Joe Glavina (employment), Adam Hastie, Rob Hayes and Patrick Mcloughlin (property) and Julie Middlemass (property litigation).

Ex-Linklaters projects and energy partner Peter Gray has joined Surrey-based Shadbolt & Co.

Justin Spivey (employment) and James Chisholm (commercial property) become partners at Keelys in Lichfield, while commercial property specialist Jill Pearshouse is made associate partner.

Four promotions at regional firm Mills & Reeve: Nick Abbott and Martin Brewer in the Birmingham employment team, Neil Davis in the London insurance practice and Charles Staveley in the Cambridge commercial property team.

Liverpool-based Maxwell Entwhistle & Byrne has promoted Claire Rone (personal injury) to equity partner, and Victoria Richardson (matrimonial) and Gillian Lord (personal injury and clinical negligence) to salaried partner.

Associates/assistants

Three new commercial property lawyers for London firm Forsters: Magnus Hassett, previously at Speechley Bircham, George Mastrominas, formerly at Norton Rose and Lesley Mott from Masons.

South-east firm Thomas Eggar has made four promotions to associate status: in Chichester, Lorraine Sheppard (commercial property), Tony Tynan (family) and Catherine Bandy (tax); and in London, Paul Gaff (employment).

Beverley Keitch joins the wills, trust and probate team at Stones in Taunton from Clarke Willmott.

Two commercial litigation assistant solicitors for the Manchester office of Brabners Chaffe Street: James Kerr, who was previously at City firm Olswang, and Mark Hilton from Turner Parkinson in Manchester.

City firm Simmons & Simmons has recruited David Salt, a partner and head of the English language department at Qatar firm Gebran Majdalany, as a senior lawyer in its office in Doha.

Circuit judges appointed to the south-eastern circuit are barristers Shani Barnes, Michael Brooke QC, Jeremy Carey; Richard Foster, Peter Testar and David Turner QC, and solicitor David Caddick.

Solicitor Simon Westwood Smith is appointed a district judge on the midland circuit.

Two specialist mercantile circuit judges are appointed: solicitor David Mackie QC (south-eastern) and barrister Judge Langan QC (Leeds).

William Holmes, a solicitor, is appointed salaried district chairman of the appeal tribunals, north-eastern region.
