I refer to Martin Mears’s trenchant dismissal of allegations of racism at the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Mr Mears treats the peddlers of these allegations and the powerful organisations at their back with more respect than they deserve.

But it would be churlish to deny that both he in writing and you in publishing this article have shown a degree of moral courage which is as heartening as it is rare in our present morbid climate of race obsession and self-censorship.

Let us hope the day is not far distant when present, as well as past, presidents of the Law Society will dare to speak such plain truths.
