The Law Society annually sends to all non-practising solicitors an application form (KR1) asking whether they wish to keep their names on the roll.

These forms are now ready to be sent out.

If the Society does not receive a completed application form and fee, it sends out a reminder letter explaining that it could remove the solicitor's name from the roll if the form and fee are not received.

Under section 5(b) and (c) of the Solicitors (Keeping of the Roll) Regulations 1999, the Law Society will remove the name of any solicitor from the roll who does not ask for their name to be retained.

The Law Society has sometimes found that it holds the names of non-practising solicitors on its database, but it does not have a current communication address recorded, and so it is unable to send out the application form.

The Law Society has published a list of those solicitors who will be removed from the roll because it is unable to contact them.

The list containing the solicitor's name, Law Society number and admission date can be viewed on the Web site at www.lawsociety.org.uk, under 'All Services', 'Our Services', 'Solicitor Annual Enrolment'.

Solicitors whose names appear on this list and who wish to request an application form, should contact the Law Society's information services as soon as possible, tel: 0870 606 2555.

Those telephoning from should dial: +44(0) 1527 504450.

The lines are open from 08.30 to 17.00 Monday to Friday.

Calls may be monitored for training purposes only.

Alternatively, solicitors can e-mail the Society at info.services@lawsociety.org.uk.

Solicitors who know of others who wish to remain on the roll and whose names are listed, should ask them to contact information services as soon as possible.
