A second practice linked to a law firm owner has been shut down by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

The regulator said this week it had decided to intervene into the practice of solicitor Andrew Settle including his practice at Manchester firm Precision Solicitors. This was necessary, the SRA notice added, to protect the interests of clients or former clients and any beneficiaries of any trust of which Settle is a trustee.

Shakespeare Martineau has been appointed as the intervening agent to handle Precision’s affairs.

The Precision website is not working but its Linkedin page lists it as a specialist in personal injury and clinical negligence.

Settle was a director of Precision Business Support Limited, previously known as Precision Solicitors Limited, before resigning this post earlier this month. He is also a director of Sandstone Legal, listed by the SRA in the same address as Precision, which went into administration in March this year.

The administrators’ report for Sandstone revealed that Settle had put together a prepack proposal to purchase the company’s assets through Precision Solicitors. The proposal was for an upfront payment of £60,000 followed by four instalments of £10,000. The report added that the major creditor’s view was that the marketing campaign to sell Sandstone ‘strongly favoured Precision as opposed to the overall benefit of creditors’.

In October, the SRA placed a restriction on Settle’s practising certificate under which he may practise only as an employee.
