Bath-based national law Stone King has acquired technology and media law boutique Tacit Legal for an undisclosed sum. Tacit partners Aurelia Butler-Ball, Stuart Padgham and Dan Hedley will join Stone King’s commercial team.
The acquisition follows two years of growth at Stone King under chief executive Vicky Brackett. In the year to 30 April, Stone King's LLP accounts show operating profit up 8.3% to £9.9 million on turnover up 6.8% to £23.9m. The firm said it was ‘well placed to invest in further growth and development’.
Tacit was set up in 2022 by Butler-Ball, who started her career in-house at Universal Music and was a media and entertainment partner at Irwin Mitchell prior to co-founding the startup. Padgham and Hedley spent almost 10 years between them at Clifford Chance before joining Thomas Eggar and later Irwin Mitchell.

In a joint statement, the three partners said: 'We have long admired Stone King and its commitment to making a meaningful difference, both through its own actions and those of the clients it represents.
'The opportunity to become a part of that, and to explore the huge potential for growth that being part of such an organisation brings, is an exciting new chapter for us and we can’t wait to get started.'
Stone King has offices in London, Manchester Leeds, Bath, Birmingham, and Cambridge.
