The Law Society is seeking to appoint members to its tax law committee and its sub-committees.
Vacancies may also occur later in the year and applications will be used to identify suitable candidates to fill those positions on these committees.
The tax law committee aims to keep under review, and promote improvements to, tax law, practice and procedure.
To assist it in its task, the committee calls on the expertise of specialist sub-committees dealing with capital taxes, corporation tax, income tax, international tax, stamp duty, and VAT and duties, to enable it to respond to consultation papers and other initiatives put forward in this area by the government and others.
Members of the sub-committees will formulate responses to consultations on proposals for new, and amendments to existing, tax law and will promote improvements to law and procedure in the sub-committee's area.
The main committee meets on average every two months, whereas the sub-committees meet as required to deal with consultation papers, law reform and the Finance Bill.
Some sub-committees meet more frequently than others.
Applications are welcome from all those with the enthusiasm, expertise and time necessary, irrespective of sex, race, colour, age, sexuality, religion or disability.
We would be interested to hear from practitioners from non-London firms.
Appointments will be made following a selection process that will include interviews of shortlisted candidates.
For an application pack, contact Jane McCormack, Law Reform Team, at the Law Society, tel: 020 7320 5636; fax: 020 7320 5673; e-mail: jane.mccormack@lawsociety.org.uk or Law Society, Representation and Law Reform Directorate, 113 Chancery Lane, London WC2A 1PL or DX 56 London/Chancery Lane.
The closing date is 9 July 2004.
