National firm DLA Piper and southern England firm Dutton Gregory have joined David Cameron’s business delegation to India. They are among 100 businesses on the delegation, which aims to present the UK as the ‘global partner of choice’.

One of the key messages the prime minister is expected to highlight is the importance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) in the Indian market place.

DLA Piper global co-chairman Tony Angel, one of the delegates, said participation ‘will provide an invaluable opportunity to gain further insight into the Indian economy and its legal sector. We are committed to supporting Indian enterprises grow and manage their global operations, as well as supporting our clients who wish to do business in this vibrant, dynamic and rapidly growing economy.’

Amarjit Singh, head of India group at Dutton Gregory, also one of the delegates, said: ‘The high level composition and diversity of this historic trade mission demonstrates confidence in India, the level of commitment from government and the desire from UK-India industry to partner together.’

Cameron said: ‘We go to India upbeat and confident about what Britain has to offer and determined to open doors for British business so that they can secure more trade, more investment and more jobs.’

DLA Piper's India team comprises more than 180 lawyers who have advised on some of the largest transactions in India over the past three years. These have included advising the government of India and Coal India Limited, the world's largest coal miner, on its $3.43bn initial public offering - the largest IPO in the history of Indian capital markets - and representing two high-net-worth individuals in a £646.4m LCIA (India) arbitration seated in Delhi.

Dutton Gregory’s India team facilitates inbound and outbound UK-India business, and has specialist knowledge of the complexities involved in dealing with SMEs from a UK-India perspective. It has the capacity and contact base to connect and partner businesses between the two countries, advise on business strategy and offer full legal services.
