I agree entirely with the statement by Bob Satchwell, executive director of the Society of Editors, at the end of your leader on secret inquests (see [2009] Gazette, 29 January, 8) . I am utterly opposed to secret inquests of any kind. Every sudden death should be properly investigated in a public forum.

Alex Wells, Solicitor and Notary Public, Buchanan & Llewellyn, Bournemouth

Your opinion of January 29 asserts that this authoritarian government has forfeited the right to be seen as acting in good faith in relation to civil liberties and fundamental democratic rights. I entirely agree.

It also asks if I agree with Bob Satchwell, executive director of the Society of Editors, who opposes secret inquests. Unequivocally, my answer is yes.
