Re: Jackson considers raising small claims limit (see [2009] Gazette, 1 October, 3)
In 2008 the Ministry of Justice ruled out any suggestion of raising the small claims court limit. There is no convincing rationale as to why this issue should be debated again, as the then lord chancellor made his decision following much discussion and research.
APIL remains focused on the needs of inured people. An efficient justice system which serves these people cannot be achieved by trading off one element of the legal system against another.
Who will benefit from this approach? In my view, not the injured person, only the insurance industry.
