Quinn Melville partner Zoe Gascoyne, who became chair of the Criminal Law Solicitors’ Association (CLSA) last week, faces plenty of daunting tasks in her role. But getting her face known in the corridors of power may not be one of them.

At CLSA’s annual conference in York last week, former chair Bill Waddington recalled the moment lord chancellor Michael Gove met Gascoyne at one of the group’s meetings with the Ministry of Justice over the summer.

‘He walked over to Zoe and said: “We haven’t met but I recognise you from the telly.”
