Some London barristers pulling a weekender in the office might have had an unexpected celebrity treat on Saturday. Emerging from blacked-out cars were none other than David and Victoria Beckham and family, in town for the marriage of David’s father Ted and solicitor Hilary Meredith (or as the Mail Online called her, ‘millionaire solicitor Hilary Meredith’).

The happy couple confirmed in a statement that they had got hitched in a private ceremony surrounded by immediate family including Ted’s three children and Hilary’s daughter Charlotte.

We’re not suggesting the uninvited media were trying to pad out their stories, but the Mail’s ‘source’ was wonderfully vague: 'David was best man and did all the usual things the best man does like hold the rings and he was due to give a speech as well.' It’s details like that which make us feel we were there in the ceremony. The Mail even seemed uncertain about the venue, though Obiter reckons it was Middle Temple Hall.

Obiter would like to offer our congratulations to Hilary, who runs her eponymous firm in the north west, and her new husband. And at least David and Victoria know exactly whom to call if they’ve ever got an injury claim.
