Lawyers are big fans of fashion judging by a packed central London branch of retailer Jigsaw, which hosted a ‘Law in Style’ event organised by McMillan Williams Solicitors and It’s A Lawyers Life, a website founded by barrister Rehna Azim.

Obiter was pleased to see a nice gender balance among the impeccably dressed lawyers, with many men sporting sharp three-piece suits. Guests were treated to a fashion show where the models were lawyers or trainee lawyers, beauty demonstrations, wellbeing advice and, of course, a chance to indulge in a bit of retail therapy.

McMillan Williams chief executive Dominic Harrison kicked off the evening with some top fashion advice: always dress like you’re going somewhere better later, and be original – but be ready to be copied. Obiter would love to see that advice applied to court dress. Horse-hair wigs and gowns, with a splash of colour, would certainly enliven proceedings.
