Last week’s surprise Supreme Court ruling in Wyatt v Vince provided a salutary reminder to law firms looking for media plugs always to have two statements ready when something headline-friendly happens. The ether was crackling all day with solicitors keen to offer their learned views. Would the judgment ‘open the floodgates’? Yes! (Moore Blatch). No! (Withers). It remains to be seen! (Nobody who got their name in print.)

Irwin Mitchell wins the palm for being quickest off the mark, issuing its response before the breakfast croissants were cold.
