Obiter applauds the efforts of Essex firm Birkett Long, which celebrated its 200th anniversary with a pledge to carry out random acts of kindness in the local community. The promise concluded with a collection in December across the firm’s offices in Colchester, Chelmsford and Basildon to give supplies to local food banks.

Other firms will have done similar, but in this case the firm even gave us itemised details of what was collected in the lead-up to Christmas. The most commonly donated item was a packet of biscuits (52 packets), with nappies (44 packs) and tins of fruit (34) next in line.

Sarah Humphryes, assistant marketing manager at Birkett Long, said: ‘It was wonderful to see all of our staff across three offices get involved in this firm-wide initiative. Birkett Long is here for good and we are delighted to continue to make a difference to those in our local communities.’
