Hands up who had ‘justice system blamed for Premier League club’s potential relegation’ in their 2023 bingo card?

Not many, we would imagine. But that is the scenario facing Leeds United in its (albeit lacklustre) attempts to stave off relegation.

Having turned this week to ‘Big’ Sam Allardyce to rescue the club with four games of the season to go, fans naturally assumed that his regular assistant Sammy Lee would join the backroom staff.

Alas, Lee is indisposed. At his press conference, Allardyce confirmed the former Liverpool and England midfielder is unavailable due to jury service.

‘I find it poor judgement,’ said Allardyce of the decision not to release Lee, who added that the refusal had left his old lieutenant ‘unemployed’. Whether Leeds fans find Allardyce-ball a trial of their own, only time will tell.
