One of the more predictable comments on the Gazette’s website appears whenever we mention International Women’s Day. ‘Why isn’t there an international men’s day?’ someone invariably asks. The short answer: there is. And this year the Ministry of Justice says it has arranged events to mark the occasion, on 19 November.

‘No one should suffer unfair treatment because of their gender. Every year International Men’s Day offers an opportunity to highlight how outcomes for men and boys can be improved and to talk about some of the important work going on every day across government to do this,’ the busy Chris Philp said in response to a parliamentary question posted hours before parliament was dissolved.

Activities being led by the department’s gender equality network include an International Men’s Day quiz and a ‘breakfast session for dads and dads-to-be’.
