Obiter imagines the odd solicitor has come off the phone to a legal ombudsman bemoaning that they don’t know what they’re doing.

Well, that excuse can hold no longer – very soon you’ll be dealing with trained professionals.

Students from the Legal Ombudsman’s office are among the early entrants to the world’s first masters degree for professional complaint-handlers, offered by Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh.

Course leader Chris Gill said: ‘We feel that it’s now the right time to speed up effort to develop professionalism in the complaints sector.’

Obiter looks forward to hearing from solicitors reporting a seamless complaints process in future.
