Getting along with your parents-in-law can be notoriously problematic, but if you are a lawyer the task might be slightly less so.

According to a YouGov poll, lawyers are among the most sought after professions for a son- or daughter-in-law.

When the British public was asked what profession they would most like their daughter or son’s spouse to have, presuming they were happy with their fiancé, 24% opted for a lawyer. As sons-in-law, only doctors did better: 38% of parents reckoned a medic was the ideal. When it came to daughters-in-law, however, parents ranked lawyers third, behind doctors and teachers (bit sexist, that).

Lawyers who are thinking of moving into politics will be less heartened. Just 1% of respondents favoured their son or daughter marrying an MP.
