Robert Buckland QC MP cuts a fine figure in his judicial wig. But, as he confessed in a speech to the Lord Mayor-elect of London the other day, he still finds performing in state ceremonies in front of the Queen ‘a nerve-wracking and humbling experience’.

He went on to reveal an even more daunting performance: singing ‘Danny Boy’ to his constituents. ‘I literally want to be music to their ears,’ the proud Welshman said. It turns out that the lord chancellor was doing his bit for the Swindon Women’s Aid charity shop. He maintains that a clip is doing the rounds on Twitter.

Perhaps he’ll grace us with an encore at next year’s London Legal Walk?
