Obiter is delighted to learn that the working office moggie is not redundant.

At least at the Carers’ Legal Centre, a specialist firm for carers at Bransgore in the New Forest. Principal Simon Whipple tells us that Jess the office cat ‘is not usually a fee-earner but this morning she contributed breakfast to the firm’s turnover’.

He added: ‘Sadly this morning the Carers’ Legal Centre was not particular caring towards mice.’

Meanwhile, Veronica Hamilton-Deeley, senior coroner for the City of Brighton & Hove, tells us that Hudson (pictured) has to surrender his favourite coroner’s chair during inquests, but that he ‘usually joins the hearing shortly after everybody is seated, and is a huge source of comfort, particularly to family members enduring the inquest process.’

Apparently Hudson performs similar duties at the neighbouring Woodvale Crematorium also.
