The loss of a valued staff member can often be the prompt for a charity push, but such was the affection for legal secretary Sharon Roberts that a whole team volunteered.

And so eight people from Devon firm Wolferstans Solicitors resolved to climb Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain, to raise funds for The Mustard Tree, a charity that supported Sharon during her long battle with cancer.

Sharon had been with the firm for more than 10 years and her diagnosis in 2019 came as a massive shock. She died last year.

Wolferstans partner Julian Burrows said Sharon, a qualified paralegal, was an incredibly important person who was cherished by all her colleagues. ‘The climb was tough, both physically and mentally,’ said Burrows. ‘But we kept Sharon in our hearts and minds throughout the journey, knowing that the challenges we faced were nothing compared to what she had gone through.’

The team, made up of Burrows, Holly Bowditch, James Twine, Jack Harvey, Paige Bartlett, Pippa Tanner-Wood, Mara Cunha and Sam Porritt, raised a toast to their late colleague at the peak. They have so far raised £7,000 and hope to reach £10,000.
