Prominent housing and homelessness charity Shelter has appointed an equally prominent lawyer to be its first ‘legal services ambassador’ – criminal barrister Robert Rinder, star of ITV daytime show Judge Rinder.

In his latest role, Rinder will raise awareness of Shelter’s legal services and work to support people with advice and legal representation.

He said: ‘I spent over a decade working as a public legal aid lawyer. This has taught me that access to legal advice can be life-changing. It can be the difference between homelessness or a roof over your head. The difference between staying safe or facing the streets. But too many people still don’t have access to advice or the justice they deserve. This makes them extraordinarily vulnerable to bad housing and homelessness.’
