Obiter was excited to be invited to a preview of the BBC’s The Split, a drama about a family of female lawyers ‘at the heart of London’s emotionally charged divorce circuit’, which begins tomorrow.

The show kicks off a few weeks after divorce lawyer Hannah Sterne (Nicola Walker) has left the Defoe family firm founded by her single mother to join rivals Noble & Hale. This strains her relationship with not only the matriarch, played by Deborah Findlay, but also her younger sister, Nina (Annabel Scholey), yet another solicitor. Hannah’s husband Nathan (Stephen Mangan) is, you’ve guessed, a barrister.

Creator Abi Morgan said she was inspired when, watching her daughter play hockey, she got talking to another mum who was a divorce lawyer: ‘By the end of the match I realised it was a great world for a show.’
