You could be looking at the future of law firm offices: a shipping container. Virtual commercial firm Carbon Law, whose self-employed partners currently operate around a ‘hub’ in Cardiff, has opened its first office in England. It is located in the ‘Boxworks’ development in Bristol’s funky Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone.

Founder Michael Burne says that five of the firm’s seven Bristol-centred lawyers have chosen to come in to the ‘office’ rather than work at home. The attraction is not so much the box as the chance to be close to clients and potential clients among start-up ventures, he says. It’s also a way of testing the market before moving to more luxurious premises in a year or two.

God bless all who sail in her, we say.
