When former attorney general Dominic Grieve left government, his ‘very old friend and colleague’ Chris Grayling encouraged him to join the board of the Global Law Summit.

‘It was a very nice consolation prize, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it,’ he told the audience at a pre-event party.

He later informed anyone who may be feeling ‘slightly tipsy’ because the floor felt unstable: ‘That is because the floor does genuinely slope. There is a stream running underneath Skinner’s Hall and therefore you are not being deluded or deceived by your own instincts. So that will allow you to have another couple of glasses without worrying about that matter at all.’
