Lydia Srebernjak (nee Radosevic) was born in London in July 1949. Her father was an agricultural worker from Serbia, and Lydia was enormously proud of her Serbian heritage. This pride is something that coloured her whole life, including much of her work.

Lydia began her career working in banking, but her love was always for the law. In her forties, she boldly changed her career path to pursue this passion, completing her articles in 1995, not long before her 46th birthday. Lydia went on to work for N.C. Morris & Co LLP in New Bond Street, but it wasn’t long before she decided to forge her own path.

She started her own firm, Silvercoin & Co in Mayfair, where she initially focused largely on conveyancing and probate. However, in the last 10-15 years of her life Lydia chose to become something of a champion for those she felt needed her help, and began to take on almost exclusively pro bono work in an effort to use her legal skills to advocate for others. She became a Freeman of the City of London in 2018, in recognition of her services to law.

Lydia died unexpectedly in December 2023. There will be a memorial service celebrating Lydia’s life at 3pm on Tuesday 9 April 2024. The service will be held at St George’s Hanover Square (entrance on St George’s Street), with a reception to follow in The Ballroom at 17 Grosvenor Square.

Anyone who was fortunate enough to call Lydia a colleague or a friend is very welcome to attend the memorial service and reception.
