In 1956, our founder Richard Carr-Gomm recognised the growing need for connection and community among older adults. He envisioned a network of safe and friendly homes where older people could maintain their independence while forming friendships and finding support. He invested his own money in the first Abbeyfield house, and more houses were founded through the generosity of many supporters.
BSAVA PetSavers
BSAVA PetSavers is part of the British Small Animal Veterinary Association and funds veterinary clinical research studies into diseases and health conditions affecting our pets. Founded in 1974 by a group of volunteer veterinary surgeons, PetSavers has grown over the past 50+ years and has funded over £2.7m into diseases as diverse as cancer, heart disease, neurological disorders, bone and joint disease, immunological conditions, gastrointestinal disorders, and skin disease.

Providing a safe, loving haven for horses and ponies suffering from neglect, ignorance, or cruelty Our mission is to provide a safe, loving haven for horses and ponies suffering from neglect, ignorance, or cruelty; or who have found themselves in need due to other causes. We are a tiny charity centre and provide all the Tender Loving Care (TLC) we can with minimal resources along with the support of Hillside Sanctuary in Norfolk.
Midlands Air Ambulance Charity
Midlands Air Ambulance Charity operates and funds three air ambulances covering six counties including Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands. The charity responds to some of the most traumatic incidents including cardiac arrests, road traffic collisions and sports injuries. The aircraft reaches remote locations to attend to patients unreachable by land ambulance.
