The first edition of this handbook was published in 1992 – and since then it has become a must-have for every property practitioner. As ever, the handbook is set out in the chronological order of a conveyancing transaction.

The index is excellent. On a number of occasions when I have wanted to check a point, I have found the section I was looking for without difficulty. That is not always the case with other titles.

Sensibly, precedents fall outside the scope of this book, as it is felt that most lawyers have access to those in other works.

This new edition includes, among other matters, changes to Law Society practice notes on flood risk, mortgage fraud, and the introduction of a new contaminated land practice note. The section on stamp duty land tax, particularly stamp duty land tax on leases – always a difficult area for conveyancers – is set out clearly and concisely.
