Part-time judge David Thomas has written an immensely moving account of a very gifted young man who was diagnosed with bone cancer at the age of 17. It is the story of his life, and not only the loss of it but also of everything he achieved despite the diagnosis. Daniel comes across as a normal young man with a family trying and succeeding to do their best for him.

Religion comes into the story at various times and Daniel receives comfort from his faith. The place of faith is subjected to a lawyerly analysis which it seems to pass.

This book has an appendix on how to research and advocate for your child, which will be of interest beyond families affected by cancer.
