Specialist construction, engineering and property solicitors Barton Legal has hired senior associate Joong Moon from DL E&C.
Moon, who is an English-qualified solicitor with dual legal qualifications in Korean law and English law, will be relocating from the Republic of Korea to join the firm in Leeds.
Moon, who was most recently senior in-house counsel at DL E&C, is experienced in the preparation and negotiation of EPC project contracts including prime contracts, subcontracts and license agreements. He has managed claims related to oil and gas, petrochemical, and power plant projects and has previously worked on projects across the globe including in Asia, the Middle East, and North America.
His arrival comes as part of Barton Legal’s wider efforts to expand its presence in the Republic of Korea, as the firm looks to foster deeper connections with major Korean contractors.
Moon said: 'I am very excited to be joining Barton Legal at a time when there is so much to be gained by building business bridges between the UK and Korea. In an export-driven economy like Korea’s, English law has a vital role to play, which is why I made the decision to move to the UK in 2005 and qualify as a solicitor.
'I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to work with Bill and the rest of the team at Barton Legal, as well as to continue deepening my knowledge of English law by practicing in the UK for the first time.'
Bill Barton, director at Barton Legal, added: 'I am thrilled to be welcoming Joong to Barton Legal. His qualifications and experience speak for themselves, and it’s fantastic to bring someone with such an impressive track record on board. I have every faith that Joong will be an invaluable asset for the firm.
'More than ever, construction is an international business, but contracts drafted in English play a vital role in keeping the cogs turning and ensuring projects are delivered. Joong’s experience of working in-house advising on mega projects means that he will bring a new perspective that everyone at Barton Legal will benefit from.'
