Every member of staff at national firm Burges Salmon will get a 3% bonus despite a year in which net profit dipped. In the year to April, profit dropped by 4% to £53.1 million, while profit per equity partner was down 6.7% from £660,000 to £616,000. Turnover increased by 11% to £197.2m.
Burges Salmon said the performance reflected a year of continued strategic investment to grow its partnership, increase technological capability and extend its office infrastructure. It awarded a firm-wide bonus of 3% of annual salary, 40% down from 5% paid out last year.

During the year, the firm made 13 partner appointments, hired nine lateral partners and appointed 19 directors. It also invested in the continued use of AI.
Burges Salmon reported particularly strong growth in the practice areas of technology, transport, defence, energy & utilities and built environment. It said its 2026-31 strategy reinforces the firm’s commitment to remaining independent, increasing its focus on chosen sectors and practice areas and developing its international referral model without the complexity of an overseas footprint.
Ross Fairley, senior partner, stressed the importance of this independence, sector focus and collaboration to push the business forward over the next five years.
