Monisha Shah has been selected as the preferred candidate for the role of LSB chair following an assessment process. The appointment is subject to a hearing by the Commons justice select committee before ministers make a final decision.

Shah’s last executive role more than 15 years ago was at BBC Worldwide (now Studios), the commercial arm of the BBC. She is best known to the legal community as the chair of the panel that recommends lawyers for appointment as King’s Counsel.

In recent years she has taken on a number of chair and non-executive roles: she is chair of the Publishers’ Licensing Services and co-chair of the Copyright Licensing Agency. She also serves as council member of the Advertising Standards Authority and is a serving trustee of the Royal Collection Trust, Art Fund and chair of trustees of Caterham School.
